good article. I agree that most first time home buyers need to evaluate their finances closely before jumping into the home ownership world. Just starting out also means work, life, family, kids, can all change on a whim and can really put pressure on finances.

Your right it does seem like something you'd see on a TV show. I'd like to see him launch that boat. I'll bet that would be interesting.

That is beautiful. It looks like something from one of those TV shows where they redo cars--Pimp My Ride, Overhauled, etc. The attention to detail is great, like how the van and boat windows match up.

I wonder if it has been featured in any magazines. It should be.

I moved from the DC area where they were eliminating red light cameras based on the fact that they had caused so many accidents. Most everything i have ever read points to the fact that they increase the net number of accidents or that they stay close to the same from people stopping suddenly to avoid a ticket and getting rear ended. They decrease the accidents from red light runners but that isn't always proven as a net gain.
Increase in VA:
http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/18/1844.asp
FHWA Safety Evaluation notes very little aggregate change but provide a small aggregate crash-cost benefit. The numbers speak for themselves
http://www.tfhrc.gov/safety/pubs/05049/
I am not making an argument against the cameras (see the Safety Evaluation)I am simply saying that stating "but it has been proven that where ever these types of traffic controlling devices have been installed, accidents have decreased" is pretty misleading at best.

Hi Jerry -- so very true. I'm president of our HOA, and have seen this happen to too many people over the years (even one is too many!). In our case, I'm pretty sure that those who don't pay dues don't really have a beef with anyone...they just ignore the invoice for their semi-annual assessment, and after months of not paying and not communicating with us, they end up with a much larger bill (including attorney's fees, lien fees, interest, late fees, etc)...plus a lien on their property! We encourage all our HOA members to contact our management company if they have any problems (financial, etc), and we'll gladly work with them, set up a payment plan, etc. But if they simply ignore our courtesy letters, fine-threat letters, and lien-threat letters, they end up owing $$$ whereas their dues are only $187 payable twice a year. Thanks very much for bringing this topic forward....I've suggested to our board that we consider publishing a short article on the topic in an upcoming HOA newsletter so our members are reminded of their options and the importance of communicating with us...not just ignoring invoices, letters, etc., and not paying.

Regards -- Jim

oh vey - when the heck will we learn.

There is a reason for 0 down mortgages, but the average joe is not the right person for them...

this is beter that this is a fixed loan, but these types of opportunities, generically positioned to the [shall I say financially ignorant] public is the reason there is growing support to the new and growing "Regulate" mantra.

I believe the industry should regulate itself, but I feel the industry is drunk with the glamor... and feel this should be a normal model.

I guess we want to keep pushing it until they regulate the heck out of mortgages.

don't come whining when we are forced into a fixed mortgage model and the industry collapses and the only left is some government agency applying rules and models...
